Is Invisalign an option for children?
Ages 11 & below
In certain cases, Invisalign can be a viable treatment option for children, but we usually recommend a more traditional orthodontic approach for those under the age of 12. This is because traditional braces are fixed to the teeth rather than having the ability to take them off throughout the day like Invisalign. Losing or breaking Invisalign aligners during treatment can lead to setbacks and slow down treatment.
Still, if you are certain that your child is capable of handling the responsibilities that come with Invisalign, they can certainly be an effective method of shifting his or her teeth into proper alignment.
Invisalign for Teens
Ages 13-17
Invisalign gives teens the option to straighten their teeth through a series of custom-made, clear, removable aligners. Special compliance indicators are incorporated into the trays, allowing the orthodontist to monitor how often the teen is wearing his or her aligners. With this type of assurance, parents can feel confident that Invisalign is just as good of an option for their teenager as traditional braces.
